• Government asked WhatsApp to put the new username feature on hold:

Ministry of Information and Technology has asked WhatsApp to put on the hold the username feature which allows user to interact without exposing their phone numbers. The ministry said that the new feature may materially increase the incidence of online fraud, phishing and other online scams and asked the firm to furnish detailed explanation on the username feature within three days.

  • Committee on demographic changes is all set to send questionnaire to states:

The High-Level Committee on Demographic Changes, headed by retired Supreme Court judge Prakash Prabhakar Navlekar, has informed the Home Minister Amit Shah on 1st July that it had finalised the questionnaires to be sent to the Chief Secretaries of all States seeking detail of population changes and increase in settlements since the last Census was conducted in 2011. Panel will also ask ECI to furnish names of those excluded in SIR, to get the estimate on number of illegal migrants.

  • Central government set the floor wage rate at Rs. 300 for VB-G RAM G:

The Central Government has fixed a floor wage of Rs. 300 per day under the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025, which came into effect from 1st July 2026, raising the national average daily wage from Rs. 298.8 to Rs. 327.4 per day. The 21 States and Union Territories that paid lass than Rs. 300 per day, swa a wage rate hike while other State who were already paying above Rs. 300 saw minimal hikes

  • Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri gets one-year extension in service till July 2027:

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved a one-year extension in service for Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri until 14th July 2027 or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Misri is a 1989-batch IFS officer who assumed charge as Foreign Secretary on 15th July 2024.

  • SIT probe in the Ram mandir alleged embezzlement case has been granted a 15-day extension:

The Special Investigation Team probing the alleged Ram Mandir donation case has been granted a 15 days extension to complete its investigation by the Uttar Pradesh Government. The extension has been given to enable the SIT to widen the scope of its probe and conduct a comprehensive inquiry into all aspects of the case.
